The View From Up Here.

Hello Red Mesa,

Today seemed a bit colder than usual. Shadows are growing longer earlier in the day, and when they wave at you, you might think of waving back. Say goodbye to summer, my friends, because as the cold rolls in, so do storm clouds.

Inside sources say that the darkness is said to roll in any day now. Old James Dawson was spotted climbing the hills up to the cliffs again. Just as he does at the changing of each season, to scream into the sky. I’ve been meaning to interview him about how his process works. For all we know, he climbs up those red cliffs and, as he screams incoherently at the sky, it could be screaming back. We all remember when he broke his leg and couldn’t make the climb. The hottest summer our little pocket of desert has seen in years. So though he may seem to be just another crazy old man who mumbles warnings of ancient curses and is freaked out by omens, we have to thank him for making that treck every season.
His most recent message states:
“Darkness. Darkness and frost. The stars, the stars, the stars. Their whispers are muffled by clouds. Storms, storms, and collapse. Frozen earth, DARKNESS. Cold.”
So get those coats and sweaters out, everyone. It seems like we’re in for a cold one this year.

In other, more juicy news:
The annual Unveiling Festival was an absolute hit this year! And though all wore masks to conceal their identities, there were a few who weren’t fooling anyone. The community college’s top student in the shadow course, Melody Sloan, really showcased her talents by unleashing a swarm of creatures upon the town to do her “dark bidding” and “inflict long overdue revenge” on her long term classmate, Trisha Santiago.
Now, this is a small town, Red Mesa, and I’m sure you remember why these frenemies were always at each other’s throats. Just in case, here’s a quick recap.
Todd Grace, a very cute nobody from the paranormal research course, was specializing in demons and demonology. At the time, he was having a very sweet situationship with Melody when Trisha gave him a “protection charm” that turned out to be an obsessive love spell. It distracted him, turning his mind into to love sick goo and in his spell induced state of mind, he was possessed by the demon Segarcos. Segarcos, Lord of Nightmares and all the dark intrusive thoughts of humankind, still resides in the body of Todd to this very day.
Unfortunately for Melody, no one has found a way to separate Todd from Segarcos. It was especially cold of Trisha to still date the demon inhabiting the body of her now ex boyfriend. Yikes, girl.
The town’s high council has ruled that she may continue her studies as soon as all of the creatures that escaped the shadow realm are found and turned into the proper authorities.

That’s all I have for today, Red Mesa. I hope you have enjoyed today’s whispers. I’ll see you again soon.

Forever your reliable phantom,

Echo.
