Welcome Home, Echo.

Good morning, Red Mesa.

I hope you feel something new in the air. Even as autumn has been slow to creep in this year, I can feel it start to nip at my shoulders when the sun sets. Maybe you’ve found that you’ve needed an extra blanket at night or you start carrying a jacket with you just in case. And though the leaves have taken their sweet time turning gold this year, the veil is thin. Can’t you feel how our lovely little community has shifted? Have you begun to prepare yourself for the strange and mysterious? Seeing traditions that are familiar makes me feel so welcome and at home. Like how the library showcases all the best ghost stories, faces carved into pumpkins to light the way for the spirits that parade through the plaza at night, moaning and howling. Or my personal favorite, when the community collage puts on our Unveiling Festival, when the veil between worlds is at its thinnest, and the students studying witchcraft can showcase their talents to honor the season. While some prefer our winter holidays, I have always loved the Unveiling Festival the most.

It seems that strange is the norm around here still.
For example, you may have noticed that after years of being dark, the lights in the apartment by the water tower have been lit. That there have been a few more shadows in the corner of your eyes than normal, or a familiar laugh passes you by with no one to attach it to. Well, my dear Red Mesa, that is because after years of being away, I have finally come home. You may recognize me on the street and then have no memory of seeing me at all; you may notice things out of place, things too perfectly in place, but what I hope you’ll notice more than anything else are the stacks of newspapers that were never there before. Papers with a strange contact at the bottom.

Feel free to write in anything strange that you have heard and seen. It’s important we don’t lose the connection of community. This world only gets bigger. Let me help you navigate it.

I look forward to watching from my little shadowed corners. To being the little voice in your head that you can actually trust. The others only pray for your downfall.

Have a rumor? A question? I look forward to hearing them. Don’t be shy.

Forever your reliable phantom,

Echo
